Introducing... Hyde Wares

Hyde Wares will be joining us for the first time this Christmas in Brighton on Sunday 12th November and Saturday 9th December. We're looking forward to welcoming Jonathan and his collection of bespoke leather goods for men, women and dogs! Read on to find out more about Jonathan, the maker behind Hyde Wares...

So, where did it begin?

I began working with leather whilst living in Portugal 2 years ago. I was inspired to make some camera straps and found that I loved the material and style of working. After a few months I realised this was far more rewarding than any work I had done previously and so decided to invest in the business and make it full time.

How has your business developed since?

Every few months I upgrade my tools and materials, constantly prototyping and testing new ideas by using them myself for a few weeks. I'm pretty strict with myself and am rarely complacent. Seeing my skills improve is fulfilling but makes you push to learn new techniques and improve all the time.

What’s your favourite thing to create?

I particularly enjoy making collars and leads for dogs because owners from around the world send me great photos of their pets proudly wearing their new present. 75% of what is make are bespoke orders for people and I love a challenge! This year I have said yes to several commissions that were very intimidating to begin with, the process was exciting and eventually I wanted to keep the finished item for myself.

What do you love most about attending craft fairs?

Meeting my customers! Before becoming self employed I worked in customer service roles for years and really enjoy the one-one-one interaction with customers. I think it's important to put a face to a brand and at fairs it's a perfect opportunity to discuss your work in person.

Will you be offering anything special at our event?

I will be offering a personalisation/ stamping service on all items. So if you'd like to buy a wallet or belt for a loved one for example, I will be happy to stamp their name onto it free of charge.
