Introducing... Cocoon&me

We've been talking to Paula, the creator of Cocoon&me who will be at our event this Saturday 2nd September for our final Summer Street Food & Makers Market! Her beautiful collection features a range of planet friendly materials and she uses a range of techniques such as macrame, crochet and knitting.

How did you start out?

After working in fashion as a designer specialising in knitwear for most of my career I decided to start my own small business: cocoon&me early this year.

How has your business developed since?

Cocoon&me has a range of product areas, all of which are original designs made by me by hand with great love and care. I have a number clients who have bought from my homeware range including handmade cushions & wall hangings. I have also been lucky because contacts through the fashion industry, stylists, designers and models, have bought my hand-crochet bags and shared great images and really kind comments through social media. But the real success at the moment are my crochet & macrame planters which are selling to cafes and restaurants In Brighton and increasingly through to private clients to adorn their homes and gardens either directly or through local plant specialists such as the Spider Plant Shop

What’s your favourite thing to create? Having designed for years I always love initiating and developing new ideas across all sorts of mediums, Currently, I am very excited about the range of new offerings I have planned for Autumn-Winter, Xmas and the upcoming festive period.

What do you love most about attending craft fairs? Maker's fairs are always good to attend. I think people really love finding special things that are different and artisan, original and made with care and love. Its great to find things that you would not come across elsewhere and make a connection with the passionate people behind them. Increasingly, we are looking for authenticity and Maker's fairs offer this in a really tangible way.

Do you have a best seller? At the moment anything to do with plants are selling really well, especially my small beautiful crochet jute cocoon planters and my Giant rope macrame plant hangers are selling both for cafes and homes. This is the collection I will have on Saturday.

Will you be offering anything special at our event? I am offering 10% discount on everything from cocoon&me at the fair for all customers and 20% for any of my instagram & facebook followers.

What else do you have planned for cocoon &me? From September, I will be holding various workshops Cafe Plenty Brighton and in November at Sew Fabulous both to suit beginners. Classes range from learning basic skills in macrame, how to crochet a simple pot to knitting a snood for Winter.

Also I will be having a solo exhibition at Plenty arts & culture cafe from Oct 23rd - November 12th with crafternoon workshops & talks from guest speakers, all successful fashion & creative entrepreneurs, running throughout the three weeks.

You can email me direct at to find out more information or follow me Instagram and Facebook. Don't miss out on Paula's wonderful creations; you can come and check them out at our Street Food & Makers Market on Sept 2nd.
